We met in a summer school computer class at Winston-Salem State University in 2006. We had the pleasure of sitting next to each other. At the time, we were cordial with one another as classmates. She would ask me questions about assignments to which she knew the answers only to spark conversations. However, one day, Samantha had a friend who wanted her to come along with her to meet a guy in our building. She didn't want to go alone. Unknown to Samantha, the guy was my roommate. After recognizing each other, we laughed and joked around for hours. We just clicked. We exchanged numbers and ended up dating for nearly two years. As young college kids, we were immature and decided we weren't ready for a serious relationship. Years passed, and we both moved on with our lives. We would have never imagined ten years later, mutual friends would reunite us. We were able to reconnect as better versions of ourselves for one another. What started as just two kids sitting beside one another trying to pass a class became an HBCU love story that has lasted beyond our college years.
