The Beginning

A Perfect "Match"

That's right. That's where it all started. Match.com. Amy was a little apprehensive about this new form of dating, but the stars aligned within hours of signing up when she received a simple "Hey, how's it going?" from what she says was the man of her dreams. Ryan was tall and fit with facial hair and a man bun - this guy had it all! The added bonus? He was a football fan (albeit, a Jets fan, but nobody's perfect - Amy is a diehard Cheesehead). This initial connection only grew as the weeks went by. Weeks turned into months, and just a few days before ringing in 2018, Ryan and Amy made their relationship official. While it was a long-distance relationship with Amy in White Plains and Ryan in Goshen, they made their relationship work for the next 2 years. From breweries to the beach, to Santa Cruz, and sleeping under the blue whale at the Museum of Natural History, Amy and Ryan continued to make countless memories with friends, family, and each other. Then, the pandemic hit. As a first-grade teacher, Amy's job was turned upside down when she had to make the quick switch to remote learning. This, however, provided a perfect opportunity for the couple to "live" together when quarantine went into full effect. Would these two get along great or want to ring each other's necks? Well...they're still alive, so it seems like everything worked out for the best!

The Proposal

"You're proposing as I'm double-fisting?!"

Fast forward to March 2021. Amy and Ryan planned to spend a few days in Rehoboth Beach, DE where some of their favorite breweries are located but decided to break up the trip by staying in Long Beach Island for a day. Amy was able to teach from Ryan's family beach house, and this provided Ryan with the perfect opportunity to set up the proposal. As Amy taught, Ryan and his brother, Mark, searched the island looking for the right spot to pop the question. After Amy dismissed her class, Ryan asked if she wanted to go down to the bay down the street. Amy had NO CLUE what Ryan had up his sleeve, and his nerves rattled more and more as each second passed. They finally made it to the bay, but Amy was keeping her distance from the water because of the fishy smell from the tide. Freaking out inside, Ryan tried to get her attention by asking her to "come see the mussels over by the water." She walked over, looked quickly, and started to turn away. That's when Ryan asked her to take a sip of his sour ale. As she took a sip, Amy was also trying to plug her nose because of the continued fishy smell, so she really couldn't taste it and handed it back. Panicking, Ryan muttered that the beer was from a new brewery in her hometown of Ringwood, NJ. Stunned, Amy quickly took back the can and started to read the label. Backward and written in chalk, Amy began to slowly read, "Will...you...marry..." and before she was able to read "me", Ryan was already on one knee with the ring box in hand. Surprised beyond belief, the first thing Amy exclaimed as "You're proposing as I'm double-fisting?!?!" as she held the beer can in one hand and a Truly in the other (ask to see the video, the sound is hysterical). Amy can't even remember what Ryan said, though she knows it was short and sweet. She managed to mutter "Yes" and that's when Ryan slipped on the most beautiful ring with a rose gold band and princess-cut diamond. It was the most unexpected and perfect proposal!
