Adriana’s POV: It began with my very first day at Overflow Church, May 20th of 2024. Tyler was the second person to greet me when I walked in. He looked at me and fist bumped me, of course. He said something like “how’s it going?” From that day—and this sounds wild, I know— I felt an overwhelming feeling of “that’s my husband.” Mind you, I also thought he was way older than me and probably married with kids. Fast forward to Next Steps, June 28th, Nick P led the class and I dug for some information on Tyler. I was trying to be so sly, I simply asked how old he was. There may have been some very slight flirting between Tyler and I during the meeting, as he stayed around for a little bit during the meeting. I told him he should come to pickleball group the next day and that I’d be there. That Monday, and the Monday’s following, I’d also be so eager to see him at group. One night after pickleball, we went to Primantis with our friends. Tyler went to the restroom while the rest of us were being sat at a table. I intentionally left a seat open between Nick P and I, hoping Tyler would sit there. Of course, he did. We were all chit chatting and at this point I think we could both tell that we were interested in talking to each other but didn't know what to say. I think he asked me about what songs I like and I told him about my favorite song at the time and he asked me to send it to him on messenger. We were also already following each other on instagram and I found out later that, before he followed me, he asked our friends if that would be weird, lol. So, I sent him the song —and the love story began. Tyler's POV: The first time I saw Adriana was when she was walking through the front doors of Overflow Church. I was doing my normal thing saying hi to people walking in and as she walked in, I gave her a fist bump and said “Good morning!” Little did I know she would later become the love of my life, but that day she was just a first time guest. I didn’t really think anything of it, I knew she was very pretty but didn’t have any thoughts of talking to her yet, I didn’t even know anything about her. That was in May. She continued coming for weeks, but we never really got a chance to talk. She always bolted out the door right after church was over so I never had much of an opportunity. Fast forward to the last Sunday of June. I preached that day and there she was front row. A beautiful girl, sitting front row and loving Jesus, she definitely caught my eye. After service, a group stayed after to go through our Next Steps class to begin serving. Adriana was there. I remember thinking about how I could insert myself into the setting to get a chance to talk to her without making it weird. Little did I know, she didn’t care to make it weird at all. I walked over and was talking to Nick P and mentioned how hot it was and that I was sweating so bad while preaching and Adriana spoke up and told me she noticed and all she wanted to do was walk up and wipe the sweat out of my eyes. In my mind I was thinking, “hmm that’s an interesting ice breaker” but I thought she was just being super nice. We began to talk a little bit about her loving to sing and that’s when I called her a little song bird. I could tell by her giggle she enjoyed our interaction. I was completely awestruck because I totally thought she was flirting with me but just couldn’t believe it. From that moment, I was determined to get to know her. Long story short, we ended up playing pickleball together and of course all my friends were playing match maker and putting us on teams together and operation “Win Her Heart” was a go. Little did I know I had already won it. Through pickleball, spending time at the church together, going out to eat with friends, and simple conversations, my desire to pursue her heart continued to grow. A lot more happened in between then and now, but long story short, I am so honored that God led me to this moment so I could be with the woman of my dreams.
