It's hard to say when Patrick and Amanda met, as no one really knows the date or even a year! Pat has been best friends with Amanda's cousin, Chris, since Elementary School. Pat used to come to family events so often that Amanda's sister, Tori, thought he was one of the cousins when she was little! Amanda remembers having a crush on Pat, and thought he was a "cool big kid", but she wasn't allowed to hang out with them because she was little and annoying. Fast forward to June of 2017, Chris celebrated his birthday at Brownstone Adventure Park in Connecticut. Some of Chris' friends, siblings and cousins took the ferry over, and spent the day jumping off of cliffs, ziplining, and wake boarding. This was the first time Amanda met Pat's brother, Tim, and his then fiancé (now wife), Lindsay. Amanda and Lindsay hit it off right away and they immediately formed a friendship! This was also the first time Amanda and Pat had seen each other in probably 10 years! They ended up spending a lot of time together that day. Amanda remembers Pat flirting with her all day. "I think Pat Turi is flirting with me," she told her cousin, Jess. Jess' response was, "Ew." After a long day of fun, it was time to go home. They all took the ferry back to Long Island, where Amanda and Lindsay exchanged phone numbers. However, as everyone got in their cars, Amanda watched as Pat got in his, without so much as a goodbye. "WTF? He flirted with me all day and didn't even ask for my number?" When Amanda got home, she told her mom all about the day. The laughs, how horrible the food was, and the fact that Pat Turi flirted with her ALL DAY and didn't ask for her number. As they sat on the porch, Amanda's phone lit up... Pat friend requested her on Facebook. "See! I told you!"
Amanda didn't hear from Pat. She told Jess and her best friend Britnie that she was done with men, didn't want anything serious anymore, and she was going to take some time to enjoy being alone. "What about Pat Turi? That ship has sailed?" Britnie asked. "Yep," Amanda said. "I haven't heard from him, so I guess that was nothing." Two weeks later (while Amanda was actually on a date) Pat texted her. "Hey it's Pat. I got your number from Lindsay, I hope you don't mind." Amanda remembers getting really hot and trying to figure out how she was going to text him back, without being rude. She realized she didn't care, and texted him back 10 minutes later. "Of course I don't mind. How are you?" Pat responded immediately with, "Good. Do you want to go mini golfing with me, Tim & Lindsay tomorrow?" He cut right to the chase! The next night, the four of them went mini golfing, and then back to the Turi's house for a bonfire and s'mores. After Pat dropped Amanda off, Lindsay texted her asking how it went. "Good! I had so much fun!" A few minutes later, Lindsay said "He just got home. He's gonna ask you on a second date." And the next day, while Amanda was on Fire Island with her mom, he did! They set their next date, for that Friday for dinner at The View. Lindsay and Amanda got their nails done together, and when they got to the Turi's house, Pat had a bouquet of flowers for Amanda. Dinner was great! They laughed a lot, the conversation was very easy, and they even ate off of eachother's plates. There was one minor issue... Pat didn't kiss Amanda goodnight! The following Wednesday, Amanda joined Lindsay to watch Pat & Tim play volleyball. After the game, Pat asked Amanda if she wanted to go over and bake cookies. That was probably the sweetest, most wholesome thing anyone had ever asked her. They went and baked Pat's favorite Peanut Butter Kiss cookies. After watching Pat eat too many cookies, he brought her home. Finally, before she got out of the car, he kissed her!
A few weeks later, the four of them were at volleyball again. Pat, Tim & Lindsay were talking about the trip to Florida they were taking the following week. Lindsay said, "Amanda, YOU SHOULD COME!" Amanda was shocked. She thought this was way too soon, and felt a little weird about jumping in on their trip, so she looked at Pat. Pat looked excited, and said he would love that. In the car on the way home, Amanda said, "Listen, don't feel pressured to have me join in on your trip. Why don't you think about it and let me know?" He said, "Nope. I thought about it, and you're coming." The very next day he bought her plane ticket! WELL... that was just that. Amanda and Pat had such an amazing, fun time. They went fishing, went to the casino (Pat taught Amanda how to play blackjack), and ate amazing food. Amanda even met the first member of the Walsh family, Uncle Frank (who she immediately fell in love with), while they had dinner in his beautiful backyard. Pat and Amanda took a walk, alone by the water in Delray Beach. They both agree that this was the moment they realized they were falling in love. And, as they say, the rest is history! Following that trip, they were inseparable. In August 2017, they adopted their first furbaby, their Yellow Lab, Brodie. In July 2019, they moved into their first apartment in Ronkonkoma together. And then in August 2021, they adopted their second furbaby, the crazy Black Lab, Tux. Together, they love to watch Big Brother, Below Deck, Yellowstone and endless reruns of The Office. They love spending time with their families, going camping, enjoying the outdoors and cooking new recipes. Most of all, they love to travel, laugh with one another and snuggle with their pups.
On June 17th, 2021, Pat, Amanda and Pat's parents, Joe & Eileen went to the most magical place on earth - Disney World! Pat & Amanda took the 3-hour drive from Deerfield, FL to Magic Kingdom. In the car, Amanda put Disney music on Spotify and was dancing and singing like a crazy person. She was acting exactly how you would imagine she would act on her way to Disney, and Pat was... well... not impressed by her singing or car-dance moves. He was very stoic and stone-faced. Amanda asked him "Are you going to get excited with me, or are you going to be crabby all day?" He cracked a smile, and laughed. She figured he was just tired. They walked down Main St. USA, and Amanda was jumping for joy, while Pat was still silent. They got to the Mickey Mouse & Walt Disney statue in front of the castle, and Eileen told Pat & Amanda to stand in front of it for a picture (and if you know Eileen, you know how she is with pictures!). As they stood in front of the castle and smiled, Amanda noticed Pat's whole body was trembling. She thought he was really hot and needed some water or something. Before she could say anything, she felt a tap on her shoulder, and someone say "excuse me". When she turned around, it was her mom, Paula & her fiancé, Patrick! Amanda immediately knew what was going on. "This is happening, isn't it?" When she turned back around, Pat was down on one knee. "Will you marry me?" he asked. Amanda started jumping up and down and screaming, "Dreams DO come true!" She, of course, said yes and everyone around them started clapping and cheering. As it turned out, Joe & Eileen and Paula & Patrick had met up for dinner in Orlando the night before. They had planned pretty much the whole thing - the spot Pat would propose at, who would take pictures, EVERYTHING! Paula even made Amanda special Mickey ears that said, "I said YES!" Pat & Amanda feel very blessed to have the most loving, supportive, and enthusiastic parents in the world. The day was truly magical!
