As a Sophomore in college, I walked in to a Lip-Sync Battle practice to help make props for the performance. A young man across the room, in shorts shorter than mine, caught my eye. I walked out that night asking one of Erik's fraternity brothers, "Who was the guy in short shorts? He's so cute!" We crossed paths again, several times, throughout Homecoming Weekend at George Mason University and a week later, Erik and I went on our first date. Over the last four and a half years, Erik and I have walked through many seasons of life together. We spent the first 3 months of our relationship long distance while I worked at a Christian camp in NC. Erik drove 9 hours to come see me (and meet my parents!) in July of 2016. That weekend, he told me he loved me for the first time. They always say when you know - you know, and we did. When we returned to school that semester in the fall of 2016, Erik and I went on a date in D.C. - going to our favorite restaurant, Elephant & Castle, and then walked to the steps of the Capitol Building. It was that night, looking at the lights on the mall, Erik first told me he would marry me one day. Four years later, that promise came to fruition. Since 2016, we have celebrated and walked through many highs and lows together: first jobs, college formals, graduating college, 2 marathons, starting our careers, several moves to different apartments and houses, getting our Golden Retriever, Lucky, traveling to Game 1 of the World Series in Houston, and many other nights laughing and watching our favorite shows. Erik and I have always dreamed of this day of celebrating our love with our friends and family. Our hope is that you will support us by simply showing up and giving us grace through this period of engagement. We can't wait to celebrate with you all - it's about dang time!
