The story behind the ring

When the Bruins make the playoffs, the proposal plan takes a turn

All because two people swiped right… It all started back on Christmas of 2023 when I received the most incredible gifts from Jay’s wonderful parents, tickets to see Tim McGraw and the amazing Carly Pierce. If you know me, you know I love country music! Little did I know Jay’s planned proposal had just begun. You know what they say, “when you know you know” Fast forward to May 5th, 2024 (5 short days before the most amazing concert) I received a text from Ticketmaster apologizing “due to the bruins playoff game your event has been postponed to Wednesday May 8th”. I frantically text Jay because a weekend we had already planned on for months was about to be ruined! A weekend away without the dogs is always Jays favorite! However, thankfully my beautiful mother still agreed to watch the dogs so we could enjoy a weekend away anyways, even though we wouldn’t have a concert to go to. (…and yes we did end up making the concert on Wednesday night!) I’ll leave the craziness of the train ride out of this, however we finally arrived at the hotel, checked in, and went up to our room. We now did not have a place to be, so we decided to go for a walk. Harpoon for a brewski then Legal Seafood for some oysters… (Jay knows the way to my heart!) shortly after, we heard music in the distance and decided to follow the music. Cisco at the Seaport is a very cool spot for the record! It started to get dark and I was hoping to head to Fanuiel Hall, however Jay said “It’s getting cool let’s go grab a sweatshirt.” So with an eye roll and a laugh we went back to the hotel. Upon entrance there was a stanchion sign advertising a jazz band playing that night. Me thinking I’m so cool was like look at that Jay! You love jazz… as if he didn’t already know 🤦🏻‍♀️ We went up to the room to grab the sweatshirt and decided to go check out the band! Some nice fun jazz music and Jay hitting it off with the two gentlemen playing. Shouting out different jazz songs for them to play, until they took a break. As I sipped on my beverage Jay said I am going to go to “shoot the breeze” for a bit, which truly was no surprise, since he does that everywhere with other musicians. In the meantime, Jay was setting up the most incredible proposal. He made sure he had a staff member video the entire moment and even had the jazz duo play “American Girl” by Tom Petty. He returned to me and was telling me all about these two gentlemen and a cool car he saw outside in front of the hotel. The band returned and played a jazz song and then I heard the start of “American Girl” I thought to myself “this isn’t jazz, but it sounds great.” Jay suddenly stood up and I covered my face because I thought he was going to try to dance with me in front of all these people. Again totally normal for Jay to want to dance with me when there is music (or when it’s totally quiet to be honest). I glanced back and he was on one knee! ONE KNEE!!!! my heart racing he gave me the come here gesture. I immediately started crying and truly thankful for the video….because I don’t rememeber anything after that moment. The sweet words then big hugs…. Even Jay asking me 8 minutes later if I liked it, and I still had not even looked. The rest is ancient history! 💍
