DeMarcus and Angel met at an event they both weren’t planning or intending to attend. The singles ministry at The Village Church- Flower Mound hosted a bonfire in Frisco. They briefly chatted throughout the night about christian rap and other topics, they even two stepped (it should be noted that Angel didn't let DeMarcus dip her)! They ended up exchanging numbers through a group they met before leaving to head home. DeMarcus was solely interested in growing a gospel centered community and Angel felt compelled to go solely out of obligation so both weren't necessarily "checking for each other” at the beginning. After some time of texting back & forth, DeMarcus was interested in knowing more about Angel's nonprofit, Four ThirTeen, so he asked to call her and that was the start of their love journey.

On their second phone chat, a date was set to hang out that following week. They intended to share how they got to know Jesus and their stories of faith. Within that week many hours were spent talking and getting to each other, by the actual “date”, they already had a good idea that both were interested in dating. On top of a shared desire to grow in their love for Jesus, and making him known, both of them discovered characteristics in each other that they were looking for in a mate. DeMarcus had never experienced someone as transparent as Angel and that intrigued him. Angel had never experienced a relationship with a guy that had a genuine interest in getting to her heart before anything else. On April 10th, they were an official couple. Two weeks into the relationship, it was crystal clear that it was meant to be. After getting some counsel from community, conversations were had around marriage and expectations. A week later, they were looking at engagement ring. On May 31st, DeMarcus proposed where they had their first date and Angel said yes without hesitation or actually hearing the question (it should be noted that he almost ruined the surprise). They’ve taken this season of engagement to get in the trenches, sit in prayer, fast, and seek counsel in preparation for marriage.
