How We Met

06 | 14 | 18

"Bye Buddy, hope you find your dad" "Thanks Mr. Narwhal" The first lines exchanged from Grant and Reilly from across the way at Camp Wapiyapi, a pediatric oncology summer camp, in 2018. Both volunteers for the very first time and dressed in a Buddy the Elf costume and narwhal onesie... Grant and Reilly knew there was something more there than just a quote from a movie. As camp continued, the two coincidentally were paired to lifeguard together and Grant made sure to show off his guns under the hot Colorado rays. Of course, they took a picture on Reilly's phone, Grant would soon learn that she insists on pictures, they said goodbye and left it at that. A few days later, Grant reached out asking if Reilly could send him the picture she posted of them on Facebook, the resolution just wasn't as good... Reilly, without hesitation, did just that. The two spent quite a lot of time together paddle boarding and enjoying the summer in their second home, Fort Collins. Reilly had fallen head over heels for Grant so the other guy in the picture at the time had to go... Grant was quite relieved and from then on, they continued to build their friendship until Grant asked her to be his girlfriend on July 12, 2018. The two were quite inseparable and the rest, well the rest just kept getting better.

The Proposal

After dropping their little Tuna off at Grant's parents house for the week, Grant and Reilly were off to the mountain's of Colorado with Reilly's family for their second spring break together. They decided to snow shoe that Friday and could not have gotten any luckier with the beautiful weather and sunshine. They then made their way back to their lodge to freshen up and head to their favorite brewery, Outer Range. Not only did the brewery have some of the best beers, it also had a yurt located just behind it where they loved to hang out every year they went. Reilly's parents went in to order a round of drinks while Reilly and Grant made their way to the yurt to save some seats. As they approached the yurt, Reilly noticed a sign that said it was closed for an event that day. Perplexed if they should still go in, Grant insisted they check it out. Reilly's eyes automatically went to the thousands of rose pedals that were scattered throughout the yurt and candles lit all around. "Grant, we definitely have to leave, this is CLEARLY someone's special space or something," Reilly stated, ready to walk out. "Well, this space is actually ours, and that day you have been wanting to come, is today," he replied. Reilly immediately broke into tears as she knew in moments she would get to spend the rest of her life with her best friend. Grant got down on one knee, wiped a few of his tears, and asked her to marry him. Neither of them can quite remember what was said as both were too happy to even process. Both of their families were waiting inside to surprise them and celebrate an amazing day....Don't worry, Tuna was being watched by a dog sitter.
