We met in college through a campus ministry - Kathryn was a freshman and Grant was a junior. We became friends through mutual friends. However, Kathryn ended up at another campus ministry through high school friends and Grant stayed close with his friends. We lost touch after that and didn't talk for 4 years. We grew a lot and learned a lot in those 4 years, but God had a plan for us that we did not see coming. Four years later Kathryn got a text from Grant. We talked and reconnected over the next few days. Then we went to a Virginia Tech football game together. GO HOKIES! Nothing brings people together like Hokie football! That night we both knew there was something there and neither one looked back for a second!
One of our favorite things to do together is to go on hikes. Grant told Kathryn that he wanted to take her on a hike to a special place one weekend in January. She had no idea where they were going, but then again she never did and he always knew the best hikes to go on! We drove through the Blue Ridge Parkway and saw snowflakes on the ground from flurries that fell the night before. We got to the bottom of the hike and started the trek up the snow covered mountain. We reached the top and there was snow covering the mountain top and all the mountains in the horizon. The sun was peaking through the clouds and little flurries began to fall. Kathryn was taking in the view and turned around to find Grant on one knee. He popped the question and she was bursting with joy as she said YES! We got to celebrate with our immediate families afterwards and share that special time with the ones we love!
