Grant and Katharine met at their first teaching jobs in small town Gowrie, Iowa. Grant was the High School Band director at the time and Katharine was the newly hired Elementary music teacher. They met over a shared passion for music and education. When Grant decided to leave teaching and go to law school the couple moved to Ankeny, Iowa with their two cats, Tango and Mylo. Their proposal story is nothing glamorous, in fact Katharine notes she was wearing old jeans and a school sweatshirt during the proposal. But she still treasures the moment as it was so special. The best part was sharing the news with her junior high show choir the next day right before they went on stage. Grant had previously accompanied her group so they were familiar with her now fiance.
