How We Met

7.21.2017

Our relationship will always have roots at Candlestone Golf Resort in Belding as we intially met there as co-workers. Grant is the Golf Pro, but at the time he was hired Kat was running a large portion of golf operations (pro shop, events, etc.). She knew the instant she met him that he was the one.... the one who was finally going to take all of this responsibility off of her plate! ;) Kidding! Well, maybe not.. because it's true and that's exactly what happened. But that's not what this story is about. From day one of working together, we instantly hit it off. We don't even really remember how and when we became friends, but we remember we always looked forward to the days we worked together. We would often take a ride on a a golf cart or run out for lunch so we could swap 'war stories'. We always could make each other laugh, give each other perspective or motivation, and trust each other. It didn't matter the task at hand, we could always make it fun, whether dishing up bruschetta to a crowd of 200, collecting firewood for a golf group, fixing a flat tire on golf cart, or any of the many stories we could share. I'll admit, we would butt heads occassionally, but we always maintained a respect for each other that allowed our friendship to grow and blossom. In 2019, Kat was offered her current position at the Chamber of Commerce. Neither of us quite remembers how it happened, but eventually we realized that we missed seeing each other every day and our friendship, so we decided to grab a drink or lunch? A few days later, the same thing... we started texting more frequently and spending more time together until we started to realize that there was potentially so much more to our relationship. Since then, a lot of other people have noted that they apparently knew this for a long time, but I guess we needed to figure it out in our own way and time. One night, we had met at a friends house to celebrate his birthday (Josiah), and Kat decided (with Josiah's encouragement) that if Grant was scared to to make the first move, that she would. She made up a story about needing help backing out her car (she did not). Once she had him alone (muah-ah-ah), she told him how she felt and they shared their first kiss <3 Here's to many more kisses and years of love and laughter to come!

The Proposal

12.17.2021

Kat is OBSESSED with Frankenmuth... so obviously when she found out that Grant had never been there she wanted to take him. In fall of 2021, Kat's nephew Walker moved from Kentucky to Michigan and has been living with Grant and Kat. Well, when she found out that he had never been to Frankenmuth either, that pretty much sealed the deal - we were going to Frankenmuth. It happened to be a tough season to take time off, but we decided we would go, if only for a night. When that decision was made, the plan was put in motion. Grant had the ring, and just needed the perfect proposal. Well.... little did he know how serious Kat was about making sure the guys "experienced the full Frankenmuth effect" and "had fun".... After a day that passed far too quickly, and a series of unfortunate events, Kat's tensions were getting a little high, "We're running out of time! Everything is closing, we have to come back tomorrow, you only saw half of it! I want you guys to get the FULL experience!" - Yeah, so Grant's plan started to diminish quickly. It hadn't quite worked out and it was starting to seem like it wasn't going to. We all piled in the car to head back to our hotel, and Walker and Grant were secretly texting about how to make it happen. Obviously, Kat doesn't know this, so when Walker says "Let's go back to the waterfall at the River Shops so I can take a picture", she says "we've literally walking around for hours and now that we're in the car you want to get out and take a picture? Ok..." We walk through the River Shops, which is now closed and Walker says "Hey, come over here... what's this" and points at the waterfall. At this point, Kat didn't know what was going on. She was convinced he was losing his mind or trying to play a trick on her. But being the aunt that she is, she kindly says "Walker.... that's a waterfall!". Well it turns out that was a distractions (well-played), because when she turned around, Grant was on one knee! <3 Kat hardly let him get the words out before emphatically saying "yes!" and we shared a kiss, before Kat's excitement caused her to jump on Grant and they both fell to the ground :)
