Like many Covid love stories, ours began online. Grant and Kayla matched on Bumble in July 2021, exchanged a few messages, and decided to meet for brunch. Grant suggested a morning date because he had a tee time that afternoon, Kayla later admitted she thought he had another date lined up. (Nope, just golf) Brunch turned into a fun first date, followed by a second date walking through a local park. Right around that time, Grant dropped some surprising news: he was moving to Iowa for work. Grant's brother, Adam, even asked him before he left for his first date, "Aren't you moving to Iowa next week?" Grant didn't really think about this timing though... After that second date, he sent a message that came across a bit like a goodbye—“It was nice getting to know you...”—and they drifted apart for a week. Kayla eventually reignited the connection by asking how Iowa was going, and that she had watched some golf on TV and thought of him. Soon they were talking every day for months, Grant made trips back to Minnesota on weekends, and Kayla would drive to Iowa to visit him. Eventually, they made it official and gave long distance a real shot. When Grant’s lease ended (and work no longer required him to be in person), he moved back to Minnesota, and the two settled into a townhome together, finally in the same place. Fast forward to summer 2025, Grant had a plan to propose during a weekend getaway in Brainerd, MN. He brought the ring with him during a morning tee time at Cragun's, ready for the perfect moment. But after being paired with a (very kind but inconvenient) older couple, he decided the big question deserved a little more privacy. That evening, during a “Winos with Rhinos” safari event (zoo + wine = good time), he found a quiet, tucked-away spot in the woods by a fox. Grant asked Kayla to marry him—and she said yes. And now we are excited to celebrate the next chapter surrounded by the people we love most!
