Our story begins in an American Sign Language class during our early college years. From the very first day we clicked as friends. There was laughter, inside jokes, and the kind of easy connection that makes time fly. But as much as our friends teased, the “friend zone” was politely established, and then again…and then once more.   What truly shaped our bond, though, were the countless car rides to Marion. Meeting up before class at Walmart became our routine, but those drives were anything but ordinary. Accompanied by music and the miles of highway we talked about everything: politics, family, our dreams and the quirkiness of life. These conversations showed us something rare – we were completely ourselves with each other and never ran out of things to say; especially Payton.   Before long, we realized our friendship was growing outside of both the classroom and our friend group. We started going on hikes and exploring new places with one another, discovering how much we loved just simply being with each other. Whether we were hiking on trails or just chit-chatting, every moment just felt natural and easy.   Eventually, we felt something change. We started to realize that our friendship was quietly building the foundation for much much more. After years of friendship, car rides, and adventures, we decided to take a leap and see what would happen if we changed “we” to “us.”   That leap changed everything. What started in the classroom grew into a love built on laughter and daily conversations. Now, preparing for our wedding day, we are looking back on those early moments with smiles on our faces. The drives to Marion, the hikes, the multiple friend zones – they all led us to where we are today.   And while the rest may be “history,” we know the best chapters are still ahead.
