Joel and I were in our best friend’s wedding together in 2015. A few summers later, we went to Lake Barbee for Maddie’s birthday. Joel remembers me waking up early and making buffalo chicken dip. In March 2023, Maddie gave Joel my number on St. Patrick’s Day. The next day Joel texted me and set up our first date for the next weekend at Texas Roadhouse.

Our family was spending Christmas break in Key West, Florida. Joel came down a few days after me. On Christmas, Joel's daughter Khloee flew in. I had a feeling Joel was going to propose, but had no idea how or when. December 26th, 2023 was the day. Joel, Khloee, and I went to Carolines for lunch. We then went and did some shopping. While driving home, Joel was very quiet, which anyone that knows him knows that is very unusual. I led the way to the gate, opened it up, and my entire family was standing on the porch. I looked to my left and Joel is standing there looking at me. He then got on one knee. The entire moment was a blur, but I remember being so happy. I was glad my family was there and that Joel's parents were on Facetime with our puppies. My dad toasted us and we celebrated. We went to Higgs beach immediately afterwards to celebrate and relax. It was the perfect engagement!
