Yes, Costa Rica is a very safe country. Petty theft happens everywhere so don't leave your bags unattended. If you go out at night try to go in pairs or a group.

Yes, the tap water is safe to drink everywhere. If you are skeptical you can get bottled water most places.

What is the currency?

Answer

The currency of Costa Rica is colón pronounced (coal-loan-eh). The exchange rate is usually about $1 USD is equal to about 550 Costa Rican colónes. Most places accept US currency. We recommend using US currency for more expensive purchases (hotels, activities) and using colónes for meals and smaller in country purchases.
