They met at a college rodeo. Gracyn rode for Tarleton State University and Rowdy roped for Weatherford College. The people they were hauling with were friends so they ended up all going to dinner and hanging out together at the rodeos.
Gracyn hosted a small party at her house and invited Rowdy. Even though they hardly knew each other, he showed up. The next day he asked Gracyn out on a date. She was an hour late to dinner, but he waited and the rest is history!
Gracyn was home in California for 3-4 weeks over Christmas break. They were not "official" yet because Gracyn wanted to be sure he could handle her being away. Even though they had not said "I love you" yet, it was pretty clear when Rowdy sent Gracyn a song he had wrote for her called "Stephenville".
Rowdy and Gracyn were in Las Vegas for the NFR. Gracyn's mother, Connie, had made reservations at a beautiful lounge that overlooks all of Las Vegas. Connie's birthday was the next day, and Gracyn had been trying to get her to tell her something that she wanted. Rowdy leaned over and asked Connie what she wanted for her birthday, she replied that she almost has everything she wants, but she would really like for Rowdy to be her son-in-law. Gracyn turned to look at Rowdy, and he got down on one knee and asked her to marry him!
