How it Started

April 29, 2017

Reeves' Perspective: It feels weird thinking back to the beginning of our story because it feels both like yesterday and forever ago at the same time. There isn’t a specific moment that I can pinpoint as our first time meeting each other, but I know it traces back to First Baptist Simpsonville’s student ministry. A lot of my friends from Hillcrest were involved at Simpsonville, so I would go with them, and Gracyn would always be on stage singing in the praise band. We established a friendship through our mutual friends, which led to us being in the same friend group throughout the rest of high school. I had always found Gracyn to be very pretty, but once I was able to see her true personality and heart for Christ was when I began to think she is someone whom I could see myself with. We both had a crush on each other at various points in high school without ever verbalizing it to each other. As senior year was wrapping up Gracyn was still looking for a friend to go with her to Mauldin prom, and a couple of my friends were going in the same prom group as her (Logan and Wright). Our friend Logan Sizemore had caught on to our obvious crushes for each other and made the recommendation to Gracyn for her to ask me to be her date, and without hesitation, my answer was yes. We went to prom and had so much fun together, even though we were both nervous. After that night I knew that I’d be crazy not to pursue her so I quickly secured our first date soon after prom. Once we went on our first date (had her home by 9:45 PM) everything just continued to fall into place for us to be together. Our summer together transitioned us into college at Anderson University where we were blessed to have the best experience anyone could ask for. AU provided a place that gave us the ability to learn to love each other in a wide variety of circumstances and where our relationship was able to be molded into what God desired for us. We could never be where we are today without so many people in our lives who have poured into us and helped shepherd us along the journey. Most importantly, we would never be here without Christ, He is our everything. We pray that our next step of marriage and our relationship continues to glorify Christ. - Reeves Gracyn's Perspective: I can't remember the exact moment that we met, but our sophomore year of high school we were introduced to one another at First Baptist Simpsonville by my church friends who went to Hillcrest with Reeves. After being in the same friend group for a while, we started to develop a more personal friendship our senior year. By that Christmas, I knew I had a huge crush on Reeves but I wasn't sure if he would feel the same way; especially because neither of us intended to seek out a new relationship before going to college. When it came time for prom that spring, we were each going with different friends to the Hillcrest prom but I still needed a friend to take to the Mauldin prom. Thanks to the help of a few of the guys (shoutout Logan Sizemore), Reeves ended up as my date - which is obviously what I wanted all along! I was absolutely over the moon, and so nervous. On April 29, 2017 - exactly 6 years to the day before our wedding day - we went to prom and had a blast together. Shortly after that night, Reeves asked me on our first date, which we went on the day after we graduated high school! We spent the whole summer together and went off to Anderson University together that fall. It hasn't always been easy, but it has always been worth it. Here's to the next chapter of our story! - Gracyn
