Our Story

09.12.2019

Thank you Tinder! Gracie was a senior at James Madison University, looking for a ride to Taco Bell (and also to get married). Gil was a young valley professional, making ramen and grilled cheese. Gil picked up Gracie for their first date to Taco Bell and milkshakes at Cookout. We laughed the whole night and haven't stopped since! After a cidery date where Gil's sunroof came crashing in on the highway (date #2!), then a Shenandoah River float where we got caught in a spontaneous thunder storm and had to huddle in a barn with llamas (date #3!), we knew that together we could make the best of any circumstance. On Nov 1, 2019, after a spooky Halloween evening, Gil made it official and asked Gracie to be his girlfriend. Early dating included exploring the Shenandoah valley by foot, canoe, and pool floaties; weekend road trips; Tropical Smoothie happy hours, Billy Jacks sticky nugs, Tutti Gusti calzones (RIP); Gracie swiping Gil into the JMU rec center and dining halls; and reading in the hammock or on The Bench. Jump to May 2021, after a few months of long-distance, we embarked on a cross-country road trip. We lived out of Dorothy the Subaru for three months while we explored the wild wild west. During that time, we talked about our plans to live together in Chicago, and the trip solidified that this was the real deal. Even after being together 24/7 at our smelliest, we never got sick of each other. In December 2021, we moved into our first apartment together in Chicago! And we have a wonderful couch! Our favorite parts have been hanging with friends, visiting Gil's home in the suburbs, going to comedy shows, exploring different neighborhoods and street festivals, the duck dinner at Sun Wah, and swimming in the lake (it's huge!!!) On August 2, 2023, after almost 4 years of dating, Gil proposed to Gracie at OBX with, of course, a Taco Bell sauce packet that said "Marry Me," and a Taco Bell taco. We're so excited to celebrate our love with our friends and family!!!
