Andrew and Gracie lived in the same dorm building at San Francisco State University and were introduced by mutual friends in 2014. Gracie knew right from the beginning that there was something different about him, but it took Andrew a little longer to come to the same conclusion. Over the next three years, they slowly became better friends and ultimately started dating in 2017. In 2018, they made the move down to San Diego and got their first apartment together.
Andrew told Gracie that they were going to meet his mom at Bird Park for lunch on Saturday. When they arrived at the park, his mom was nowhere to be found, but a picnic had been set up for them. Andrew claimed it was an early anniversary surprise. He then pulled out a photo album he had created that spanned their relationship over the last four years. Gracie set the book aside, very confused at this point, but Andrew told her to keep reading. On the last page was printed, "Will you marry me?" He got down on one knee and despite the entire park stopping to stare at them (and Gracie panicking from the attention), she managed to say yes. His mom, sister, and her girlfriend then came out from hiding and joined them for champagne. The next best surprise was Andrew had arranged for several of their friends to join them. Over the next hour, old friends from out of town began appearing in the park to celebrate with them.
