For those looking to travel before or after the wedding, we (+ our amazing wedding planners) have put together some of our favorite restaurants and activities around Lisbon, Cascais, and Sintra. Lisbon Airport to city center: 5 miles / 15 min by car Lisbon Airport to Sintra (Penha Longa Resort): 18 miles / 25 min by car Lisbon to Cascais: 40 min by train / 25-30 min by car Ubers are accessible and relatively affordable around all three cities.

Lisbon: Things to Do

Lisbon is one of the oldest cities in the world, and the second-oldest European capital city. Alfama is the oldest district of Lisbon where you'll find some of the most iconic historic buildings. Lisbon: Restaurants

Java Rooftop: We went here for brunch after getting engaged! Great views of the city + fantastic food and drinks. Dear Breakfast: All-day brunch restaurant. By the Wine: Wine bar with charcuterie and small plates Collect: Near Pink Street, serves brunch, lunch & dinner, with a DJ that plays until 2 am. If in need of American food, they had a great burger! Yakuza by Oliver: Upscale sushi, reservations required Timeout Market: Food hall in the center of Lisbon Bahr Restaurant and Terrace: Nice spot for cocktails and a fancy dinner. Leonetta Lisbon: Italian, serves lunch and dinner Rocco Restaurante: Upscale Italian, reservations recommended Pomme Eatery: Cafe and Wine Bar

Cascais: Things to do

Praia de Santa Marta is walkable from the main shopping area of Cascais. You can swim here at high tide or walk around below the castle at low tide. Praia do Guincho: About 4 miles from Cascais (recommend taking an Uber). You can rent beach loungers and grab lunch at the walk up bar or sit down for a meal at Bar do Guincho. This is a great beach for spectating surfing. Praia da Rainha: Small and picturesque beach, one of the most central beaches in Cascais located next to the Albatroz hotel. Estoril Casino: the largest in Europe with over 1,000 slot machines. During World War II Estoril was a hotspot for exiled royalty, as well as spies from all sides. One spy was Ian Fleming, the James Bond author, and it's said that his experiences here were the inspiration for his first Bond book - Casino Royale. Cascais Marina: Located in the heart of the bay, offers shopping, restaurants, and sailing.

Cascais: Restaurants

Furnas de Guincho: Gorgeous restaurant overlooking the sea with delicious seafood, we'd recommend going around the time of sunset. Kul: Right in the center of town. This was our favorite spot for drinks & a causal bite to eat. Mariscaria: Delicious seafood & tucked away off a side street. Corleone: Upscale Italian restaurant overlooking Praia da Riberia, the beach in the center of Cascais.

Sintra: Things to Do

Palaces & Castles: Castle of the Moors - Built by the Moors and enlarged after the Reconquista. Take a scenic hike through trails to reach the castle. Pena National Palace - A UNESCO World Heritage Site, surrounded by over 200 hectares of forested ground to explore. Tip: go early and book tickets in advance. Quinta da Regaleira - Beautiful estate filled with underground tunnels, gardens and towers. Park and Palace of Monserrate - A lesser known palace deeper into Sintra’s mountain range, so it isn’t as crowded. Man-made waterfalls and ponds, exotic cedars, and grottoes to explore. Cabo da Roca: Western most point of mainland Europe with dramatic cliffs and ocean views. There’s a lighthouse up here, as well as a stone monolith with a cross to mark this headland, which was a famous seamark from Roman times to the Age of Discovery. Golf: Penha Longa Resort has two courses on the property. The 18-hole Atlantic course and the 9-hole Monastery course.
