Nick came over to Grace's house for a church community group gathering, where they noticed each other pretty immediately. They talked a little throughout the evening, and they left hoping they'd reconnect.

Throughout this time, they were both interested in each other, but it would be a while before they ever went out on a date. They attended the same church and would see each other often on Sundays, at community group gatherings, and other church events. They had very brief conversations here and there, often wishing they had talked longer. They secretly liked each other for eight months! They each had an eye on the other without wanting to get their hopes up, so it was a surprise to everyone when they started dating--especially considering Grace said she'd NEVER date a military guy. Nick once went on a four-month work trip, while they were still unaware of each other's interest. Grace was counting down the Sundays before he'd return, and Nick was praying that someday it would work out between them. The Lord heard and answered those prayers!

That morning, Grace was talking with Calista Malepeai at another friend's bridal shower. There, Calista asked Grace if she was interested in anyone and found out that she liked Nick. That same morning, Nick went to a men's breakfast at church, where he talked with Mikey Malepeai who told him about Grace's interest. So, Nick texted Grace to ask her out for dinner. When she didn't respond for three hours, he realized he had the wrong number! After he found the correct number, they decided to have dinner together that night. Nick asked her where she'd like to go, to which she said she would "happily eat anywhere." Nick chose the one restaurant in all of Kailua that Grace had vowed never to go to again, but she was not letting that stop her from enjoying this night. They hit it off! They talked all the way until the restaurant closed, and made plans to go out again right away. They dated for the next 11 months, both in-person and long-distance, gaining more and more confidence that they'd each found the person they'd want to marry.

Nick told Grace that they were going to hang out with their friends Carson and McClaine Wood at the beach for a bit. At Kalama's Beach, Nick said the Woods were "running a few minutes late." Nick got down on one knee and gave a long beautiful speech before asking her to marry him. Grace was speechless--she is pretty sure she said yes, and she wishes she could remember more of the details of the moment. She was just so overwhelmed with excitement! And that was when Nick pointed out Wallace, a good friend of his that Grace hadn't met yet, who was right there at the beach taking photos the entire time. Then, they left to celebrate! Grace's family members, Todd, Natalie, and Leila, were already waiting for them at Easy 'Que. It was a very well-planned evening. Nick and Grace can hardly wait to celebrate with you all very soon!
