Grace and Koby’s story begins at the University of Alabama. Through their own unique means, they arrived at the campus ministry Chi Alpha and eventually found their way onto the leadership team. At the annual retreat for the leaders in January 2019, Grace caught Koby’s eye which led to a declaration by Grace that they were going to be best friends. This sat well with Koby as he was wanting to build a diverse family of brothers as well as sisters. After a shoe exchange, their friendship was born and soon they spent every waking moment together. Everyone around them could tell that they were bound to be together forever, but their little innocent selves remained blissfully unaware of the love that was blooming, wrapped up in thoughts of confusion and possible calls to singleness. However, this did change with time.
Enter Summer 2019: Indonesia. Leave it to Jesus to wake up both of their hearts in the month it is illegal to start dating. Grace experienced a whole heart-transplant and began to feel deeply for people, especially Koby. Koby, on the other hand, realized what a smokin-hot missionary Grace was and fell in love with her genuine nature. He began the pursuit with a dramatic exit as he and the team left to go back to America, and Grace stayed in Indonesia for another two months. There were lots of tears, naturally. But their foundation of friendship gave them a weapon of communication that helped them remain close in heart while being oceans away. (Precious, I know.) Grace spent the summer loving Medan and her people with all of her heart (as that was her new thing now) and Koby led children of all ages through daring adventures at his local summer camp. This ended up being the perfect training ground for them once Grace arrived back in the states: she loves him with all of her heart and he leads her well through their daring adventure of dating for less than a year and entering into this covenant for a lifetime.
Their prediction came true: they are best friends. Their relationship has been marked with vulnerability and a passionate pursuit of Jesus. They love without reservation and walk in freedom together. They are total goofballs and make delicious food in the kitchen. They are a force to reckoned with and their wedding day will be one for the history books. The world will be forever changed by their unified run towards the Lord. How lucky are you that you get a front row seat to the Father’s goodness in action through these two.
