The Downtown Mall is a great place to walk around in historic Charlottesville. Lots of shops, bars, and restaurants, and very close to the recommended hotels.

Monticello

Monticello is the home of Thomas Jefferson and is located just outside of Charlottesville proper. If you are interested in the history here, Monticello is a great place to start.
