We met in the elevator at Cougar Place, a dorm at the University of Houston. I asked Gavin what floor he was headed to, and he promptly and smoothly responded with, "The 4th floor, the best floor." Obviously, he was met with an eye roll from me, which only encouraged him to ask for my name and if he could walk with me. A classic met-in-college love story! #gocoogs
After I graduated in May ('24), a part of my graduation gift was going to India with my mom since the last time I had visited was when I was 4. While in India, I picked out a ring that I wanted to propose with: I chose the one that had a design that looked like trusses of a bridge. Once back from my India trip, I immediately went on a road trip with Grace the same day and decided to go to California. While on the drive, I was being very obvious that I was about to propose by asking Grace questions like if she had her nails done or asking questions like, would she say yes if I proposed. Our first stop was in New Mexico, stopping at famous places from the show "Breaking Bad". We drove a couple more hours and went to the Grand Canyon, which made our jaws drop to the ground when we saw it. After a little hiking, I found a spot, which was secluded, and gave us a full view of the canyon; I remember how crisp the air was and how vibrant everything looked, I knew this was the moment. Before sitting down, I pretended I had to tie my shoe, and as Grace pondered around waiting for me to finish, she turned and found me looking at her with googly eyes asking her to marry me. I nearly passed out from how hard my heart was beating, from how high up we were, and jet-lag was kicking in. She thankfully said yes, but was mad at me since I made her drive, while I fell asleep in the car.
