Our Love Story

Grace and Austen met their sophomore year in high school when they were 15 years old. He had just moved to Spring Hill, TN from Coeburn, VA that year. He had made some friends in him gym class who invited him to join them for lunch. At lunch, this friend group introduced him to a girl who was a part of this friend group. She was wearing spirit overalls to support the school for the game that night. He was wearing a black nirvana t-shirt. She was the energetic girl who wanted to be friends with everyone. He was the boy who wanted to listen to music through his headphones and eat in peace. With that being said, they did not have a connection at first. After a couple of months of Grace harassing Austen (trying to be his friend) he eventually gave her his number and said that he would like to get to know her better. The next day, he transferred to a different high school because his family moved to Columbia, TN... They stayed in touch for 3 more years as friends. The summer after they graduated high school, they decided to meet up to hang out and catch up. They realized that they had feelings for each other and decided to start dating. Now it is almost 5 years later and they are planning their life together as husband and wife!

The Proposal

Austen knew that he wanted to propose to Grace early on in the relationship, but he chose to wait as they were both young. As time went on, he started planning to propose. Then Grace heard about the Van Gogh experience which was both of their favorite artist. They got tickets for December of 2021. Austen knew then that he wanted to propose there. However, COVID delayed the event several times, therefore delaying the proposal. Finally, the event was set in stone to open, and their tickets were for March 30th, 2022. Austen asked for Grace's parents' blessings, got Grace's grandmother's ring that she had wanted since she was a kid, and waited for March to roll around. He even found out that his friends would be going on the exact same day as them, which was perfect because he would have someone to take pictures! Finally the day had come. Grace and Austen walked through the exhibit looking at the beautiful artwork. They found seats and enjoyed the show. Austen was inevitably nervous, and got even more nervous as he couldn't find his friends. He texted them to communicate the plan and waited for them to get in position. Meanwhile, Grace is getting frustrated because Austen wouldn't get off his phone and watch the show. She thought he wasn't having a good time! Then a beautiful orange and yellow painting of flowers came across the screen and lit up the room. Austen knew that this was the moment that he had been waiting for. He asked Grace if they could move so that he "could see better". They then moved to the center of the room and as Grace is putting everything into position to sit back down, Austen won't let her sit. She's confused and says "but we are blocking their view!" and points directly at the friends who she doesn't know are in position to take pictures of the proposal. Then Austen grabs Grace's hands and is shaking out of nervousness. This is when Grace realizes that something is happening. He then gets on one knee and asks Grace to marry him, and she says yes!
