Shaffer Coffee Co.

One of Grace’s favorite coffee shops! You have to get the cinnamon roll & a cinnamon vanilla latte. Vibe: Industrial Rustic, a good study spot or to chitchat

Murray State Arboretum

300 Hickory Drive, Murray, KY 42071

An agricultural park/garden. Perfect for walks, runs, or picnics, especially at dusk. A couple of spots for kids to play, and lots of benches and tables.

Murray Farmers Market

206 South 4th Street, Murray, KY 42071

Local outdoor farmers market in Downtown Murray. It runs Saturday from 7am-12pm. It's the perfect spot to walk, visit the booths and shops around.

The Burrito Shack

214 North 15th Street, Murray, KY 42071

Local college spot. Good burritos and tacos. Can get pretty packed at busy hours, but they're typically pretty fast, fresh, and tasty.

The Willow Bistro

124 North 15th Street, Murray, KY 42071

If you’re wanting fresh, healthy food with great flavors, this is the spot! They have a mix of foods from all over the world in addition to fresh juices. Sit down restaurant close to the university.

Jasmine Murray Thai and Sushi

An assortment of Thai food. A great option to satisfy that sushi craving.

Corvette Lanes Bowling Alley & Café

Corvette Lanes is a family spot with decent food and reasonable bowling prices. It also has a little arcade. Fun Fact: Grace grew up coming here with her family when her aunts and uncles would come for a visit. Her Uncle Terry would give them quarters if they knocked enough pins down so that they could go buy something from the vending machine!

Belew's Dairy Bar

15695 U.S. 68, Hardin, KY 42048

Vibe - Mom and pop car hop Blurb - Really good burgers, milkshakes, and malts. Our family's favorite summer spot! Either order in your car or sit down in the outdoor seating. This is the perfect spot for dinner after a day out on the lake. Corn hole is set up to play while waiting for food and there is a yard for kids to run around in.

Kenlake Marina

888 Ken Lake Marina Lane, Hardin, KY 42048

Vibe: Typical Marina Blurb: Local Marina with fair boat rentals and a decent restaurant. To rent a boat, simply go to KenlakeMarina.com, select boat rentals, and follow the steps. Fun Fact: Grace’s dad would always take her here for her birthday breakfast! Pro Tip: Bring some bread to feed to the fish and turtles!

Eggner's Ferry Bridge

Benton, KY 42025

Vibe: Beautiful view, easy walk Blurb: A walking path that goes over Kentucky Lake on the side of a bridge. It's a really beautiful view, and a pretty easy walk. Great place to go on runs. Can bring a fishing pole to fish if you so wish.

The Hitching Post & Old Country Store

16474 U.S. 68, Hardin, KY 42048

Vibe: Old Timey Store Blurb: A tourist attraction, this is an old timey country store. They have over 100 different bottled sodas, many different trinkets, and soda tastings on Sundays. The soda tastings are $4.95 per person and include a souvenir shot glass. A super fun spot! They also have an ice cream shop there as well. Fun Fact: Grace used to work here doing soda tastings and made the homemade fudge they sell here!

Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area

238 Visitor Center Drive, Golden Pond, KY 42211

A 170,000 acre forest reserve with tons of things to do outside! Very kid friendly. Elk n' Bison prairie - Drive through a Bison pasture and get a look at wild Elk and Bison. $5 per car. It's pretty close to the Home place, so we often stop by on the way through. Low effort, but fun. Nature station - A fun spot to see native rescued wildlife, walk in the native gardens, and chat with expert naturalists. Has a pretty good gift shop, and sometimes runs special events. There is a small entrance fee. Hiking - Lots and lots and lots of hiking. Here are some family favorites: - Jenny Ridge - hike in hike out, follows a stream. - Energy lake - 5mi Loop, walks through tons of nature and passes through a lake. - Hemmitite Lake - 2mi Loop, goes around the lake, a good picnic spot.
