In 2018, Ruth found herself back in George for a short break from University in Ireland. During this time she had the opportunity to work at her old high school where, unbeknown to her, Ashton was working too. It took no time at all for these two to rekindle their friendship and decided to stay in contact as Ruth returned to Ireland. Their intentional chats soon resulted in Ashton traveling to Ireland and asking Ruth to be his girlfriend on a cold winters night after a Christmas Carols service. From this moment onwards, Ashton and Ruth embarked on a two-year long-distance adventure, traveling between Ireland and South Africa and intentionally growing together in love. In 2020 they were re-united as Covid hit, and have celebrated "no more good-byes" ever since. And in 2022 they celebrate something even greater: Marriage!
