How we got hereHow we got here

On May 20, 2021, Sophie was out at the bars in Harwich Port with her cousins just as the bar scene was letting up their COVID restrictions. Sophie's cousin Shane offered to drive Sophie and her cousin, Siobhan, to the Chatham Squire and pick up his friend from fishing "Kinger” on the way. That friend turned out to be Ryan. After a night out together, it was evident that the sparks were there. After that night, Ryan asked Sophie on their first date, which ended up being a Southie bar-hop watching the Bruins play off game. From that night forward, Sophie and Ryan were inseparable. That summer was filled with nights out on Cape Cod, a funk bus to the Beachcomber, date nights in Boston where they both lived, and quality time getting to know each other’s friends, families and of course, their family’s dogs. Both families would attest that they fit right in. The next few years were busy to say the least. Alongside their careers, their travels took them from California to Florida (west coast, east coast, and more recently, Crystal River to swim with the manatees). Summers were spent on the water sipping mudslides at Baxter’s, enjoying the Plymouth waterfront, and hopping on spontaneous boat rides. Every fall included their tradition of visiting Nashoba Winery and apple picking. Though winter isn’t their favorite season, they made it cozy with red wine, Scrabble matches, and 1,000-piece puzzles. Sophie has always said that she would trust Ryan with her life. She knew his strong intuition would always keep her safe and also encouraged her to embrace a bit more adventure. In November of 2024, they took their first international trip together to Brazil. They ventured to Ryan’s uncle’s seaside coconut farm, in rural Brazil, which proved to be an unforgettable and absolutely amazing trip (you should ask them for some stories). That has sparked their travel bug for life. Then came the moment they will never forget. For four years, Ryan had told Sophie about Cuttyhunk and how deeply he cherished childhood memories there. So for Christmas, Sophie gifted him a weekend getaway to the island (though he’d have to wait six months). On June 13, 2025, they caught the ferry from New Bedford and checked into the Cuttyhunk Fishing Club. That afternoon, Sophie trusted Ryan’s intuition once again as he led her on an extremely long walk around the island under the beating sun. After that they played some pickleball and Sophie took a nap, unaware that Ryan was preparing to ask the most important question of his life. That evening, they stepped outside their room to take in the beautiful views. There, with the island’s quiet charm surrounding them, Ryan got down on one knee and Sophie said yes to forever.
