Being the introverts they are, Joel and Jenna met through social media! At the time they lived 100 miles apart and Jenna's car simply could not handle the trek to meet halfway for a first date. So Joel quickly quelled his nerves and drove all the way to Richmond to meet up for a date walking around the city and grabbing a bite to eat at a local pub. (And by that, we literally mean A BITE since Joel was just too anxious to eat.) Nearly every weekend was spent together from that point on!
In late April, Jenna made a sarcastic comment to Joel while eating her beloved chicken wings and Joel slipped up and said "I love you". Nobody can recall the hilarious low-blow remark that triggered this obviously heartfelt response... but Joel did in fact cave and say "I love you" first. Even if it was more of a "gee, love you too" kinda comment...
In the middle of a pandemic, on Jenna's 30th Birthday, Joel covered their home in gold streamers and a MASSIVE banner celebrating the occasion before leaving for work. He was a nauseous, nervous wreck all day at work while Jenna went to pick up Nina (Maid of Honor) from the airport. Once everyone was settled back at home, while chilling and watching TV, Joel handed Jenna a charismatic little birthday card and got down on one knee. Nina started panicking and crying, not thinking to stop and take a picture of the event. Joel offered a beautiful, sparkly ring (coincidentally named "the Jenna ring") and popped the question! After saying "yes", and blubber-crying extensively, they re-staged the proposal to capture a photo of the special moment.
