Jessica was working as a nurse at Loma Linda ER. She was charting in the assignment "7,8,9" when Ryan swooped into the temporarily vacant pharmacist computer. Ryan introduced himself as one of the PAs, Jessica told him how she had just started working there. Ryan told her he was actually leaving for a different job in two weeks. Jessica said: "well, I guess it was nice knowing you then". They went their separate ways and reconnected after Ryan left Loma Linda, through a common interest in Rock Climbing.

Ryan took Jessica on a "last-minute" date up the palm springs aerial tram. They hiked around off-trail to get to a bouldering spot he had heard of. Taking a couple of breaks along the way he pointed out a lookout point. They got to the lookout point where Ryan had them positioned perfectly in front of his camouflage hunting cameras and proposed. He had gone up a few days before to set up and position everything perfectly.
