Salem in October is a must-do if you want to get in the Halloween spirit. Take a spooky tour, learn about the witch trials, and visit the cute shops and cafes. Visit Jenni Stuart Jewlery where Matt designed my engagement ring! Pro tip: take the MBTA commuter rail or look into an Uber or taxi. The town of Salem majorly restricts public parking during the month of October.
Choose your own adventure here. There are plenty of quaint New England towns nearby that have historic town squares with shops, restaurants, and walking trails. Our favorites include Concord, Newburyport, or anywhere on Cape Ann. For those willing to drive, Portsmouth, NH is only 45 minutes away and is one of our favorite weekend trips when we want to get out of the city, especially to enjoy the fall foliage. All of these towns have cute shopping districts, great restaurants and bars, and lots of history.
(Weather permitting) October is our FAVORITE month to be in New England. Drive along scenic highways, take advantage of public walking trails, or explore state parks. The Trustees of Reservations is a great resource for spending time outdoors in protected lands and has properties all over the state, including Crane Beach nearby in Ipswich. Mid-October is often the peak weeks for the colorful foliage in Northern MA so grab a coffee and walk or drive through the changing trees!!
