Gordon and Paige met when they worked at Cape Fear Country Club in Wilmington, North Carolina. Gordon was working as an apprentice in the kitchen and Paige was working as a server while she was in nursing school. Gordon was always very friendly, holding the door and asking Paige how her day was. Whether this was just Gordon being his normal, kind self, or an effort to peak Paige’s interest is still up for debate. Regardless, it worked. Paige invited Gordon to participate in one of her favorite activities after work one night, drinking wine on her back porch. Gordon made Paige feel welcomed in her new city. He told her if she was ever having a bad day and needed a hug that she could count on him. Again, just a ploy to get close to Paige? Maybe, but Gordon and Paige have been supporting each other like this since they began their relationship.
Paige and Gordon hosted a Christmas party at their home in Durham, North Carolina. The whole house was decorated, the house was full of friends and food, and everyone was having a great time. Gordon pulled Paige aside and said he wanted to say a few words to their guests, thanking them for coming and wishing them a Merry Christmas. While he was speaking, Gordon referred to Paige as his beautiful wife. The room got excited, but Paige kept her cool. People referred to her as his wife, fiancé, girlfriend; she responded to any of the above. Gordon said some sweet things and thanked everyone for coming, and then said the sweetest thing of all - “Paige, will you be my wife?” Paige has no idea it was coming, which made the moment even more amazing.
