How We Met

First comes school, then comes marriage

"Adrian and I had the blessing of meeting while attending school at University of San Diego. Before we met, we both lived in the same dorm room building our freshman year, not only was it the same building, but the same floor. Our Sophomore and Junior years, went by with us still not knowing each other - even though we had mutual friends. Finally, we met our senior year, and were inseparable since. Who would have thought in a school that big, I would end up with the only Mexican guy known to roam the halls. We crossed paths many times while dorm room living, eating at the same cafeteria, taking classes across the hall from one another, and even parking our cars in the same parking lot. Each of us had our soulmate intertwined in our lives, and I am so grateful to have chosen the paths that led me to him." - Linda

Our First Date

September 2018

"I had just spent about 30 minutes doing my hair, which is longer than any man should take. I kept grabbing my keys, and checking the time only to learn there was still hours before our date. I honestly was not sure what to expect, but I had just moved to this part of San Diego, and really didn't have any friends. Come to find out, Linda lived no more than a freeway exit away. So anyway, the time comes and I am on my way. The entire drive over, I am just thinking about what kind of music to play. Is she cool with hip hop? Maybe I should go mainstream with the radio? God, I hope she doesn't like Country music. That was a shock. I pulled up to her house, sent her the text, queued up my music and began to sweat. It was a quiet car ride, awkward as all first dates are, but the night seemed to progress with ease. When we got to the ice cream parlor, I knew in my head my height was gonna be a talking point. I asked her to get out first, menso - I should've opened the door. Sure enough, when I stepped out she couldn't take her eyes off me. We talked, ate ice cream , and just really got to know each other's story. Low and behold., we had basically spent all of college together. I didn't kiss her the first night because had to leave her on a cliffhanger. I dropped her off, and within one hour, our second date was planned." - Adrian

The Proposal

10/18/2021

"I sat down Linda's parents, my brother in the room on behalf of my family. I told them how much Linda meant to me, and how she is the woman I know I am to spend the rest of my life with. I told them I loved them, and appreciate how loving and welcoming they have been to me. I pulled out the ring, and asked for their blessing to ask for Linda's hand in marriage. Her mom cried immediately, and embraced me. Her dad asked for the ring, stared at it for a while, and said "wow, I have been waiting for this." With their blessing, I was ready to propose. I convinced Linda that we needed to take Christmas photos, and I had a great spot out by Lake Cuyamaca. She was amazed that I would take such initiative with something like this, and with that she said "okay!" I used the photos as a way for her to get herself nice and dressed up, also so she would dress me up. For those that don't know, I am frustrating to shop with, and seeing her frustrated was all the more amazing because she didn't know she was dressing herself for own proposal. The day came, and I took her for pie to get things started, and just enjoying the day. Meanwhile, we had a team composed of Maly, Audri, and Aaron waiting to take photos and videos. We got to the spot, and I followed the directions my sister had sent me, without Linda knowing. We got to a bridge that overlooked the lake, and I told her I wanted to take a picture of her looking out at the water. She turned around, and with her back to me I got down on one knee. When she turned around the world got quieter, and we were so present in the moment. I told her I had been rehearsing all week what to say, but just went with my heart. I told her she was my everything, and I wanted to commit myself to her fully. I asked if she would marry me, and with tears in her eyes she said, "yes". - Adrian
