Question

Is Colombia safe to visit?

Answer

Like any major city, Bogotá has a mix of vibrant, safe areas and others that may require a little extra caution. To make the most of your time here, we recommend practicing common sense—just like you would in any big city. Consider keeping flashy jewelry and valuables to a minimum and storing important items in a secure place. As we say in Colombia, "no dar papaya," which means being mindful and not drawing unnecessary attention to yourself. For a list of wonderful and safe places to explore, check out the Travel tab on our website. We’ve put together some great recommendations to help you enjoy Bogotá to the fullest!

Question

Visa & Passports

Answer

U.S. and Philippine passport holders do not need a visa to enter Colombia. If you hold a passport from another country, please visit www.cancilleria.gov.co for more information.

Question

Travel Insurance

Answer

Since we’ll be celebrating at a destination, we highly recommend purchasing travel insurance to protect your trip and give you peace of mind. Depending on the policy you choose, coverage may include trip cancellations due to medical reasons, political events, or natural occurrences. If you're a U.S. citizen, be sure to visit state.gov to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) for important travel updates and assistance.

Question

What is the weather like in Bogota?

Answer

Bogotá enjoys a cool, mild climate year-round, with minimal temperature variation. It has a subtropical highland climate with distinct rainy and dry seasons, and in July, temperatures typically range between 44°F and 66°F (7°C and 19°C). We recommend dressing in layers, as the weather can shift throughout the day. And don’t forget to carry an umbrella—just in case!

Question

Altitude in Bogota

Answer

Bogotá sits high in the Andes at an altitude of over 8,500 feet (2,600 meters). Some visitors may experience mild altitude sickness, such as light-headedness, dizziness, or shortness of breath during the first few days. To adjust comfortably, take it easy and avoid overexerting yourself as you explore the city.
