Back in November 2021, Zack and Alexis were both living in Denver, CO, and were looking for love on good ol' Hinge. We aren't sure if it was the picture of Alexis in a Rangers jersey or her chugging Fireball but either way, he made the first move to start the conversations. In typical Alexis fashion, she left him on a read for a few weeks before circling back, but then their connection was instant, and they couldn't stop talking around Thanksgiving of that year. Fast forward to Black Friday sales and a great deal on New York Rangers tickets when they were playing in Colorado; these two had their first date on the calendar for December 14th. To make matters even more interesting, later that month, after Zack's work holiday party he stayed with Alexis in her downtown apartment, where he ultimately caused her sink to literally explode and flood the entire kitchen, which then required a full floor replacement (which is still brought up often years later). After multiple attempts of Zack asking Alexis to be his girlfriend and her saying "no", she finally had a change of heart on January 2nd, 2022 after Zack lost a bet and wore a New England Patriots sweatshirt during the playoffs. From there, the story only continues to unfold and their love for each other is seen by many. They spent that first winter together, taking many trips to Breckenridge, most weekends watching lacrosse, multiple road trips, and finally met each other's families.
Come June 2022, Alexis and Zack get their first apartment together in Glendale, CO where they still live and spend a lot of the time lounging in the pool and trying new restaurants in the area. Alexis officially became a lax girlfriend and was easily the loudest person cheering Zack on in the bleachers at every game, no matter what state it was in or what time of day. Through this, the two started to grow their friend base and find their local support system. Zack had the pleasure of attending a few weddings for Alexis' friends that fall, ranging from high school through work friends, and started to see how connected their social circles ended up being as they grew up only 33 miles apart, but had to move across the country to find each other. Their first set of holidays together was eventful, to say the least. Alexis traveled with Zack to Nashville for Thanksgiving to meet the rest of the family, compete in family flag football, and experience Broadway (at this point, Zack said he hated country music, so she was determined to change that). Travel went smoothly, but next it was time to visit Connecticut/New York for Christmas. This is when not only Alexis but her entire family knew that Zack was the one and would fit in perfectly. There were many life events that occurred that week, and Zack kept up pretty well and always made sure everyones wine glasses stayed filled.
It was summer 2024. Alexis and Zack were sitting by Mary and Art’s pool, discussing what to do for Alexis’ 30th birthday. Without any hesitation, Alexis declared that she wanted to go to Mexico. Art started looking into flights and hotels, and started inviting family to this once-in-a-lifetime event. While the planning was happening, Zack started to strategize about asking Alexis to marry him. He quickly decided that asking her in Mexico was the right move. He started creating mock-ups of rings online before getting the final sign off from Penny, the MOH, since Lex gave zero direction. Once the ring was made, the next step was asking Art to marry his daughter. Mary and Art came out to Colorado for his birthday in October ‘24. Let’s just say this was an eventful trip, and Art said yes in a local spot called Dr. Proctor’s (no this isn’t a doctors office). Fast forward to November when Alexis and Zack left Denver for Cancun. Not only was this Zack’s first time to Mexico, but he also had a shiny rock buried in his bag and was told by Alexis that customs would search everything they’ve bought with them. Everyone spent the morning of 11/8 at the pool enjoying the sunshine and staying hydrated with the best margaritas. Towards the late afternoon, everyone went back to their rooms to get ready for dinner. Zack, filled with excitement and nervousness, was dressed and ready inside of 5 minutes. He said he wanted to go sit on the beach with a margarita and watch the sunset before dinner. Alexis agreed, and the two of them with their guava margaritas went down to the beach. Zack started talking and expressing his feelings. Alexis was distracted by what was happening around them, and didn’t hear what he was saying as there were many distractions. Nonetheless, Zack restarted his heartfelt speech 3 times, yes 3 times, before getting down on a knee and asking Alexis to marry him. She said yes and the celebration started.
21 months later, many cross-country flights, video calls, and spreadsheets, we are ready to PARTY! Thank you to everyone who has helped us get here, those on the east coast checking out venues, looking at colors, listening to us argue on the smallest details, or giving advice on your own experiences, we appreciate you all. We appreciate all the support, no matter if it comes from a visit to Colorado, a card in the mail, live streaming either of our lacrosse games, pieces of advice, or a random FaceTime call; it all means the world. While there is a very important person that will not be here with us on our weekend, we know Art would want every single person to have an amazing time. I am sure you will see glimpses of him in the details, and we know while we can't see him, he is very much here with all of us. We hope everyone has a great time celebrating our love. As we don't see many of you often, we cherish the times we do! Hope to see you in Rhode Island with your dancing shoes and we promise we will get the drinks for you! Love always, Alexis & Zack
