Shoutout to modern dating, we met on Tinder! When we met up for our first date, it was a Sunday afternoon in late September 2014. Sean had just moved to Seattle a few weeks before, so I (Brigitte) wanted to show him the ropes of Capitol Hill city living. We met at Molly Moon's and walked through Cal Anderson Park where we found a park bench to enjoy our ice cream. I remember our ice cream melting down our hands because we were both talking so much! We hit it off straight away and didn't want to stop spending time together. So ice cream in the park turned into smoothies on my rooftop, followed by a grocery store trip, making dinner and a movie! I couldn't believe how upbeat and positive Sean was about the smallest joys in life, even a trip to the grocery store. After our 12-hour first date flew by, we both knew we'd found someone special. We have so much fun together, even when doing the most mundane things. To this day, how much we both love spending time togerher is what makes our relationship so strong!
If I was going to ask Brigitte to marry me, I knew I had to do it somewhere warm, sunny, and meaningful to both of us. Our first big vacation together was to Maui, and it just so happened that Brigitte’s parents, Alice and Dave, had just taken jobs and moved to the island! We were already planning our first visit, and conveniently I had just picked up a sparkling new ring. I carried the ring with me 24/7 on all of our adventures on Maui, but had yet to find the perfect place to pop the question. Our biggest “event” of the trip was a plan to wake up at 3am and drive to the Black Sand Beach in Hana for sunrise. We woke up on time, hit the road... and hit the rain. It was POURING during the entire winding drive to Hana. Darkness, dumping rain, one lane bridges, and fallen branches, this was not how I saw this going. When we got to our destination a couple hours later, we were greeted with a healthy dose of more rain. So we hid in a cave. Through it all we’d been having the best time, regardless of the weather, and lucky for me the clouds parted and the rain stopped. I knew I finally had my chance. I scouted out a spot for pictures, a very normal occurrence, and called B up to a ledge. I set the tripod and started shooting, eventually placing a timer and moving into position. It was time. And she said YES.
