A Match Made in Heaven

1102, copy?

Their story began 7,300 miles apart: Angela in the Philippines and Robert in California. Angela grew up in the Philippines and moved to Oakland while Robert was born in San Gabriel and was raised in Fontana. Angela went to high school in Vallejo and Robert in Bloomington. Due to unfortunate circumstances Angela chose to attend UC Irvine ("Go Anteaters"). While she was in college Robert was working with his family but left to work as an EMT for AMR in Palm Springs. After finishing college in the spring of 2018, Angela had 2 choices: find a job or move back to Vallejo. This prompted her to attend EMT school in Orange County. By that time, Robert had left his EMT company in Palm Springs and was working for Premier Ambulance in Brea. Robert moved in with his grandparents in Rowland Heights to be closer to work. After completing EMT school, Angela looked for open positions in the area. She ultimately found and accepted a position at Premier Ambulance. During her training, her cohort was informed that an EMT on staff recently got into trouble for sitting in the Captain's Chair during transport of a patient (spoiler alert: that EMT was Robert). After training, Angela had to choose a shift and she chose "1102", which meant that she worked 11:30am to 9:30pm Friday through Monday (another spoiler: Robert was on that shift!). Before meeting Angela, Robert didn't enjoy his shift very much: he always had a new partner for every shift because who would want to work during the weekend? He didn't waste time getting to know any of the random partners he met since they only shared that one shift together. Here comes another Friday and Robert was rushing into work (like always) and headed in to meet his partner. Angela was at work early to make a good impression on her first shift. She grabbed an iPad to prepare for the shift then comes in a tall man in uniform huffing and puffing. Angela turned to him and said "Hi, I'm Angela. Are you on 1102?" and stuck her hand out for a handshake. He reached out and shook her hand and said "Hey, I'm Robert. Yea that's me". The two finished the usual unit check out. Robert radioed, "1102 to Dispatch". "Dispatch to 1102, go ahead". "Dispatch show us active and ready for service". The entire 10-hour shift was filled with laughter. Unknown to both of them that this was the beginning of something beautiful. Two lives that were brought together across good and bad times. 7,300 miles down to 2 feet in an ambulance. No dating apps, no getting set up by a friend. Purely God's plan. Truly a match made in heaven.
