Million Dollar Highway

Million Dollar Highway

HWY 550, Ophir, CO

The Million Dollar Highway will be the road you take if you drive from Silverton to Ouray. It is an iconic highway built in the late 1880s as part of the San Juan Skyway. It is known as one the most spectacular scenic drives in the nation, beginning at Durango and traveling through Silverton and Ouray before ending in Ridgeway. This roughly 25-mile stretch climbs up three towering mountain passes, Red Mountain Pass, Coal Bank Pass, and Molas Pass, as well as several gorges and various valleys.
