Once upon a Brisbane summer in 2020, two very unsuspecting humans— Sandra, freshly moved from Melbourne, and Godwin, fresh out of the boat from New Zealand—found themselves at the Trendsetters retreat, hosted by Jesus Youth. Neither of us really *wanted* to go, but apparently, peer pressure and the Holy Spirit are a powerful combo. We met. We bonded over being the “new kids” in town. Both of us thought the other was kinda cute (though we didn’t say it out loud at the time). We became friends. And then… church happened. Turns out, we both went to the same church— St Alphonsa Brisbane North Church. Destiny? Coincidence? God’s sense of humour? You decide. We started chatting more at church, just friendly stuff… until a bunch of kids came up to us mid-convo and asked, "Are you guys love birds?” We laughed, said “Ew, no—we’re just friends,” and then avoided eye contact for like 10 seconds. Fast forward a year and a million “just friends” texts later, we found ourselves leading the church youth group together from 2021 to 2023. During that time, we ran events, survived Zoom meetings, had too many late-night planning calls, and became each others' go-to person for rants, ideas, and everything in between. Post-graduation, we both started working, slowly told our families about “the friend who wasn’t just a friend anymore”… and now we’re getting married! So if you’re reading this: congratulations!
