One of our Austin "happy places", this is where Nick proposed on the 9th hole! Butler is a 9-hole pitch and putt course in the heart of Austin. It's a fun activity for all abilities. No tee times offered, and it's first-come, first-served. We like going in the morning and enjoying Little Ola's breakfast biscuits or during the day when you want to enjoy a cold beverage out on the course! Play takes about 2 hours, and there can often be a long wait. Check out the Courtyard Cam to see how busy they are before heading over.
While you may be at the Bullock for our reception on Saturday, you won't get a chance to see all the exhibits the museum has to offer. It's 3 levels of Texas history, including the earliest state history and modern culture.
This was the spot of our first date! Roosevelt Room has a variety of great classic and unique cocktails. It's a classy spot for a nightcap or an elevated happy hour drink. You'll likely need to make a reservation on a weekend.
We like golf. And nothing says Austin city golf like Muny. It turns 100 years old in 2024 and became a Texas Historical Site in 2009. If you go play a round, let us know if you recognize the name on the side of the pro-shop.
A true Texas honky tonk. Usually a $5 or $10 cover. Some nights they will do two-step lessons before the bands come on, so check out the events page!
One of our favorite spots for pizza, beer and enjoying some time outside. They have live music inside a few nights a week, so check out their calendar! This is down the street from St. Ignatius.
If you find yourself walking in downtown Austin, stop by the Austin Central Library. We both love books, and it’s a beautiful spot. There is a balcony and a roof section overlooking Lake Austin, making it a perfect stop for a picnic or rest.
Start at Jo's and grab a drink and picture by the famous "I love you so much" mural. South Congress has lots of cute shops and restaurants to pop in and out of.
There are a lot of fancy bars in downtown Austin. This is not one. Instead, you will find a dive bar dedicated to Johnny Cash and a fun casual spot for a beer. We live close by, so this is a staple for us. Plus, you get to see the daily update from the famous El Arroyo sign.
This is the best spot for a good view. Just west of the city, it’s located at the start of hill country and overlooks Lake Travis. Indoor seating is available at the brewery, but we recommend claiming a table outside if the weather cooperates.
Outside of the city in Dripping Springs, Treaty Oak is a fun distillery where they make their own whiskey and gin. They have some indoor seating, as well as many outdoor benches. Can enjoy a tasting, a cocktail, BBQ and a tour!
Texas is known for its BBQ and breakfast tacos. This is the best of both worlds and one of our favorites. Formerly a top-rated food truck, they recently opened a brick and mortar just outside the city. Worth the trip!
Texas loves its BBQ. Austin has a fair sampling, but if you are serious about getting the full experience, then consider taking an afternoon trip to Lockhart. It is the home to Texas BBQ and located just 40 minutes out of the city. Try more than one spot if you go!
