Thank you for your cooperation. It was 2020, peak Covid-19. In good ol' Florida, that meant absolutely nothing to two girls living in Fort Lauderdale. My roommate and I wanted to have a small (we tried to follow protocol) game night at our apartment. Our friend, Evan, asked if he could bring his friend (Kelly), who he plays basketball with, to our 'party'. "No, I don't want another smelly boy coming over." Despite my initial hesitation, Kelly would even teams out for us to play Fishbowl™. Was it love at first sight? Absolutely not. I mean, he's obviously a handsome guy, but he paid all of his attention to my roommate's kitten and barely said hello to my 13-year-old overweight Puggle with an underbite (Strike 1). ~ direct quote from Kelly when I asked if it was love at first sight for him~ "Actually, no." (but he did follow me on Instagram when he got home after game night.. I'll let the audience be the judge), okay back to the story - Strike 2 came when the cops were called on our "party" seriously it was 6 people, and I answered the door, alone* (*allegedly). The police officer asked us to keep it down, and Kelly pointed at me and said, "It's all her fault, she's super competitive and was getting loud". Now that is a BIG Strike 2. Turning me over to the cops at the first chance he had? Unreal. The next time we saw each other was three months later out one night in Fort Lauderdale. (Again, yes, it was Covid, but also it is Florida). This is where I would normally let Kelly jump in and explain why he was wearing joggers and a sweatshirt to the rooftop bar at the Dalmar Hotel, but alas, there is a maximum amount of characters in Zola. He was, however, able to redact one of his strikes that night as we giggled and joked the whole time. I'm not exactly sure why, but that night I also invited Kelly, Evan, and Richie (foreshadow: our officiant) to my house for Passover. After meeting my entire mom's side and not being scared off, Kelly asked me to dinner at Wine Room in April 2021. By May 2021, we were official, in June 2023, we bought our townhouse in Lake Worth, in October 2023, we adopted our little border collie, Blue, and in December 2024, after 3 1/2 years together, Kelly asked me to marry him in North Carolina.
