If you want the short version, please skip to paragraph 3. The "how we met" question is always a difficult one for us to answer. Technically we met back in 2010/2011 when Joey was working a long weekend at Camp Akita in a counselor role for high school campers and I (Kendall) happened to be one of those high school campers. Jump ahead when both of us were over the age of 18, we found ourselves sometimes crossing paths. Joey is friends with my older brother, Austin and we had plenty of mutual friends through the camp community so it wasn't unusual to see one another in social settings. It feels as though we have led similar lives, just at different times. We grew up blocks away from each other, and attended the same elementary, middle, and high school and college at Ohio State. Spent our Summers at Camp Akita as campers and staff members. Lived in the same neighborhood post-grad. We even took the same month-long backpacking trip in the Himalayas through the National Outdoor Leadership School. Again, we both have done all these things, just never at the same time. In the Fall of 2020, I was living in my apartment in Grandview and through mutual friends learned Joey was moving in next door. Joey still claims he had "no idea" I lived there. We texted a few times back and forth and would chat briefly in the hall or the parking lot. Eventually that led to each of us hosting the other for a casual dinner. During these dinners we would discuss dating woes and how hard it can be to find someone. It was comfortable being with someone familiar but at the same time, getting to know someone new. In June of 2021, I went on a date with someone, it was fine but I couldn't help but think how much more fun I had with Joey having dinner in his apartment. I worked up the courage to ask him out on a "real" date but I had a pretty good feeling he would say yes. Falling in love came very quickly and easily for us and our short-distance relationship went from neighbors to roommates in August 2022 when we moved into our home in Clintonville. We cannot wait to be married and continue growing our lives together. We are looking forward to celebrating with all our family and friends soon!
