Jamaica is famous for its "One Love" hospitality, and Negril is a well-established tourist hub where the local community takes great pride in welcoming visitors. You can feel comfortable walking the beach or main roads. Taxis Use the recommended transportation providers or "Red Plate" taxis. "Red Plate" taxis are official, licensed, and insured vehicles. You can easily find them at your hotel or along the main roads. The "Hustle" On the beach, you will be approached by friendly vendors selling everything from delicious fruit to local jewelry. A polite but firm "No, thank you" or "No, respect" is all it takes if you aren’t interested. They are used to it and will move on.

Is Cannabis and Mushrooms Legal?

Cannabis and mushroom usage is decriminalized in Jamaica. You are allowed to carry up 2 ounces for personal use. They can be purchased from cannabis dispensaries/ cafes (recommended) or vendors on Seven Mile Beach. Rasta Tip Jamaican cannabis and mushrooms are strong, so please use them with caution. Please ask the restaurant, bar, or hotel staff before consuming in public areas.

The best place to exchange currency is at the airport. ATMs around the island are very unreliable. All major credit cards are accepted at restaurants and hotels. Cash is needed for local shops, bars, shuttles, and taxis. Dollars are accepted.
