FAQs

The Wedding Website of Gizelle Liwanag Abad and Owen Thomas Johnson
Question

Filipino wedding traditions during the ceremony

Answer

Unity Veil - The veil represents God’s all-encompassing presence and protection that will accompany Owen and Gizelle as they face the challenges that will come as they build their life together. The veil, a symbol of the purity of married life, is placed over the shoulders of the couple to signify their union and being “clothed as one.” Unit Cord, Yugal - A cord, sometimes a rosary or silk thread, is placed over the veil in a figure-eight (∞) shape, representing an infinite, unbreakable bond and shared life. Blessing and Exchange of Arras - These 13 coins (arras) represent the groom’s promise to provide for the family and the bride’s pledge to care for their home and wealth. They represent Jesus and the 12 apostles, or alternatively, the 12 months of the year, with the 13th coin symbolizing generosity/charity toward others and the community.

Question

Dress Code

Answer

We ask that you celebrate with us in cocktail/semi-formal attire. Think earth tones and autumn colors! Both our ceremony and reception will be held indoors. Our bridesmaids will be wearing brown floor and groomsmen in black tuxs. We can't wait to see you all dolled up!

Question

Which airport should I fly into?

Answer

We recommend flying into SFO and staying in San Francisco.

Question

Where should I stay?

Answer

We’d recommend the north beach (little Italy) area near the reception venue. Marina district is another good option for hotels or airbnbs. Please avoid the Tenderloin.

Question

What time should I arrive for the ceremony?

Answer

The ceremony promptly starts at 9:00AM, we recommend you aim to arrive by 8:30AM to ensure you comfortably arrive on time and ensure no disruptions to the ceremony. We know this is very early and appreciate our guests for showing up for us! The early slot is to ensure we have the space as private as possible because city hall gets a lot of love 5 days a week.

Question

Can I take pictures during the ceremony?

Answer

We kindly ask that your phones are put away and silenced. We want everyone to be fully present with us. Our amazing photographer will capture all the little moments which we will share with you. Our officiant will prompt you a few minutes to take pictures during the ceremony but for the remainder please share this beautiful moment with us phone free.

Question

Can I bring a plus one/date?

Answer

We’d love to include everyone but we unfortunately can’t accommodate everyones additional guests due to the limited capacity of our ceremony and reception venue. Your invitation will be made out to "{Your name} & Guest" if a plus one has been given to you.

Question

Are kids invited?

Answer

Due to the nature of our venues and limited capacity, our wedding will be a 21+ and over celebration. We hope that this advance notice gives you enough time to make the necessary arrangements to celebrate with us on our big day.

Question

When are RSVPs due?

Answer

Please rsvp by: June 1st, 2026, invitations will be sent out in April. Due to the timeframe given to us by our vendors, it is imperative that we have a final guest count by this date. If you are unsure how to rsvp, you will find the rsvp tab at the top of our website.

Question

Do you recommend renting a car?

Answer

The ceremony venue (SF city hall) is only a short 15 minute drive to our reception venue (Fior D’Italia). We recommend uber/lyft if you are staying locally in SF. But, if you plan on exploring over the weekend before our wedding or after the reception then renting a car is the way to go.
