Marty and Gizelle met in the Bay Area and initially had a whirlwind romance. On their first date, Gizelle beat Marty at air hockey and they ended the night dancing. On their second date, they went on a hike and ended up going to a karaoke bar (neither of them can hold a note) but they quickly learned that music played an important role throughout their lives, and still does to this day. The third and most memorable date, Marty broke the news that he was moving to San Diego. The decision to date long distance provided many adventures and memories throughout the coast of California. Marty rolled out the red carpet for Gizelle, on her visits to San Diego, which ultimately led to her making the easy decision to move that summer of 2020 - yes, during covid. Being on lockdown together solidified that this was a relationship that could endure hardships and bring out the best in one another. Gizelle and Marty began to build their life together in beautiful San Diego, making forever memories visiting family, friends, and experience as many concerts as possible. Marty had secretly created a proposal plan with Gizelle’s best friend in Maui, but sadly, due to unfortunate circumstances (wildfires) their plans pivoted and they found themselves on the East Coast and Denver. The Red Rocks Amphitheater was their top venue to visit, and it was the last leg of the trip. A few family and friends knew Marty planned to propose but Gizelle’s friends were watching her Instagram as if it were a reality show - hoping that Marty would propose at some point. After a severe weather storm, and sheltering in place in public restrooms, one of their favorite reggae bands came on stage and Marty got down on one knee. Their love story has been through pandemics and storms but they always know that at the end of the day they have each other, a great support system, music, and spicy margaritas.
