Travel Note
Ischia is situated in the Gulf of Naples in Southern Italy, around 18 mi from the nearest city, Napoli. The island is served by ferries (from Porta di Massa Port) and hydrofoils ( from Beverello Port) that connect it to ports in Naples and Pozzuoli which is just a little further north. From Naples you have a choice of either ferry or hydrofoil for the crossing to Ischia, the ferry takes around an hour and a half, while the hydrofoil is slightly faster and takes about 45 minutes to Ischia Porto. There is a difference in price to reflect the faster journey times with hydrofoils priced around €23 per person each way while the ferries are around €17 per person each way. The two ports are close to each other but not really what you would consider a reasonable walking distance. This being the case, there is a free shuttle bus service between the two ports which takes around 5 minutes with services every 15-20 minutes. When buying your ticket you can select a luggage tag for big items, usually no more than 2-3 euros, or you can do it upon arrival of the port. They do not charge for carry ons.
