Visiting Old San Juan is a must when you arrive! The area is filled with great local restaurants and shops and is a great option if you have a couple of hours available. Once you're there, we recommend you also visit El Morro, the fort built between the 16th and 18th century to protect the city of San Juan. The fort has great views of the San Juan bay and offers plenty of photo ops in a unique location.Once you're done with your visit to El Morro, you can walk around Old San Juan and grab lunch. At night, Old San Juan is also an option for a laid back night of bar hopping.
Casa Bacardi is a great option for anyone visiting the island. The factory is located near San Juan and offers a few tour options. Check out their website using the link below for details of the tour options. Also while you're there, check out the gift shop which has special editions of Bacardi rums not available elsewhere. But remember, do not drink and drive! The Casa Bacardi is about a 20 minute Uber ride from San Juan and the surrounding area. If you're in Old San Juan, you can also take the ferry to Casa Bacardi for a more scenic option!
This national forest is the only tropical rain forest located in the United States. While the rain forest was hit hard after Hurricane Maria, recovery efforts have allowed for the reopening of several trails, including some overlooking the stunning water falls and views of the island. We highly recommend a day trip to this amazing location. El Yunque is located approximately 45 minutes away from San Juan. While there are plenty of tourism companies that offer tours of El Yunque, we recommend planning ahead for this one.
Check out Toro Verde, the world's second longest zipline visited by both Jimmy Fallon and Lin-Manuel Miranda. If you're on the adventurous side, this one is definitely worth visiting! Orocovis is about an hour out from San Juan, towards the central region of the island. Toro Verde offers several packages to choose from - check out their website below for more details!
