Summer 2016: I logged on to play video games and thanks to a mutual friend — shoutout to Ulises Cota, our accidental matchmaker, he invited me to play with him and his friend, Joaquin. That’s how I first heard the voice of the boy who would one day be my husband. After a few gaming sessions, they decided we should all meet in person. Unfortunately for him, I was already in a relationship and completely oblivious. He never confessed his feelings, never pressured me — he just stayed and kept singing the song. Through a year and a half of hard times I went through because of my relationship, Joaquin listened to every rant without judgment and never once told me to leave for him. Eventually, I realized I deserved better. When I finally left the relationship, guess who was still there? The boy who sang to me through a headset. We started spending more time together, and one summer night on September 27, 2018, under a random light pole in front of his house, I finally asked, “What are we?” He said, “You’re my girl.” And here we are, seven years later, counting down to our wedding — all because I decided to log on and play video games one random summer day. 🎮✨ - Verano de 2016: me conecté para jugar videojuegos y gracias a un amigo en común (un saludo a Ulises Cota, nuestro casamentero accidental), me invitó a jugar con él y su amigo Joaquín. Así escuché por primera vez la voz de un chico que algún día sería mi esposo. Después de algunas sesiones de juego, decidieron que deberíamos reunirnos todos en persona. Ellos llegaron a mi casa, salí… y Joaquín se quedó mirándome como un niño que hubiera encontrado el último caramelo en la tienda. Pensé, ¿Está bien?... Este es un poco raro. Resulta que simplemente estaba atónito. Seguimos jugando aquí y allá, y poco a poco empezó a coquetear, principalmente cantando “Hola bebé, ¿cómo has estado?” de El Próximo Viernes de Espinoza Paz, lo cantaba cada vez, en lugar de simplemente decir "Hola". Desafortunadamente para él, yo ya estaba en una relación y no me daba cuenta de las coquetadas. Nunca confesó sus sentimientos, nunca me presionó; simplemente se quedó y siguió cantando la canción. Durante un año y medio de momentos difíciles por los que pasé debido a mi relación, Joaquín escuchó cada despotricar sin juzgarlo y ni una sola vez me dijo que me fuera por él. Finalmente, me di cuenta de que merecía algo mejor. Cuando finalmente dejé la relación, ¿adivinen quién seguía allí? El chico que me cantaba a través de unos auriculares.
