We met while I was an undergrad at West Virginia University and Jonathan was a 3rd year Med Student also at West Virginia University
This was a tricky one... despite the ring getting lost in the mail for 3 weeks (thanks UPS) and then getting stolen on the beach in Miami (yes, we are more than happy to share these stories with you at another time), Jonathan was still able to pull off an epic proposal! Due to all the drama getting the ring into his possession, Jonathan had no choice but to tell me he bought a rock. Obviously, me knowing a ring was coming made it INCREDIBLY difficult for Jonathan to surprise me (he was insistent that he would make this happen!). On the last weekend of January 2021, I went home to DC to visit friends and family. On the morning of the 31st, my friend asked me to get brunch at Old Ebbitt in downtown DC. Due to the snowstorm that hit DC, I was VERY reluctant to go (I DO NOT drive in the snow) so much so that she had to yell at me to get me into the car (I'm serious... I really don't drive in the snow period.) At this point, I was under the impression that Jonathan was in Cleveland at work, because the night before he forwarded me an email from his boss explaining he was being called into the hospital that day. Fast forward 2 hours, and I'm being led to the Lincoln memorial so that my friend could "take pictures for her 5th grade students". As she took pictures of random objects with her very fancy camera, I knew something was up. We got to the top of the Lincoln Memorial where she asked me to pose for a picture. After a few quick pics, she turned the camera around, asked me how I thought they turned out, and BOOM Jonathan was standing right behind me! He walked me down the stairs to the perfect spot (see the pics.. you'll see what I mean), got on one knee, and the rest is history! Between the amazing ring, surprise appearance of his best friend and college roommate, champagne toast, and brunch at Old Ebbitt (yes we actually ended up there), it was the perfect day!
