From Alex’s perspective: Chris and I were both interning for KeyBanc Capital Markets. Out of a large intern class, there were only a handful of interns assigned to work on the trading floor, including Chris and I. As interns, we always went out for lunch as a group. One day, I saw him on the other side of the trading floor as I was about to leave for lunch and realized he looked stressed. I was unsure whether or not he’d be able to join the group to eat so I walked over to him and offered to bring back lunch for him. From that day forward, the interns wondered if we liked each other. We may have denied it for a while, but at least I can confirm I made the first move! From Chris’ perspective: One day, during the hot and humid summer of 2013, I was strenuously assessing the mark-to-market value of a copious number of derivative contracts on the KeyBank trading floor when I was suddenly taken aback by a bright light. In confusion and curiosity, I glanced up to see a mysterious but magnificent figure that appeared to be floating towards me. Almost immediately, I began to simultaneously hear both the singing of angels and the crashing of thunder as it approached. I struggled to regain my composure as sweat dripped from my brow. I braced as it neared, not knowing the intentions of its arrival nor what could culminate from its presence. I placed my feet firmly on the ground as I stood to meet it head-on. Suddenly I heard, “Hi Chris! Would you want me to bring you back lunch?”
From both of their perspectives (they’ve consulted and agree this is how it went down): Chris had been planning the proposal for months. Looking back, Alex had no idea. One night, Chris told Alex he made a reservation for dinner at their favorite restaurant in Chicago, Piccolo Sogno. Alex immediately became giddy (largely because Alex was always the one to make reservations for the two of them). Two weeks go by and it’s the night Chris proposes. Chris and Alex have an incredible dinner at Piccolo Sogno and then head to Eddie V’s for a nightcap with her parents. Little did she know, Chris had planned to have his family, her family, and some of her close friends waiting for their arrival. The curtains opened, Chris got down on one knee, and the celebration began.
